Great Smoky Mountain Railroad – WNC
The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad runs just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Bryson City. People have been riding these old rails since the early 1890’s, for many years it was the only way to travel through these mountains. Today, it’s all about family fun! The train weaves throughout the Blue Ridge in open meadows, deep forest, along crystal clear rivers and over lakes, presenting ample opportunity to view wildlife and scenic views. You have the choice of riding in a closed cars for an intimate dining experience, or ride outdoors on one of the open cars for the clean mountain air.
Ride the Nantahala Gorge railway or take a ride to Dillsboro, a historic mountain town full of great restaurants and shops. At Christmas make sure to bring the kids for The Polar Express Train Ride – always a magical trip. This is one of Western North Carolina’s treasures and a must-do for the whole family.
