Living in Avalon places you very close to one of the most beautiful, historic sites in Asheville, NC, Biltmore Estate! Biltmore Estate is America’s largest home and a really fun place to visit. If you have never been to Biltmore Estate, you must go! This is a place like no other, where you feel like you step back in time to one of the most amazing homes in the country. Modeled after a European chateau, the house and gardens are simply breathtaking.

Spend A Day at Biltmore Estate

Biltmore Estate was the home of George Vanderbilt and is a true Renaissance French chateau right in the heart of Asheville. The chateau itself is an architectural marvel and its rooms are unique works of art. From the dining hall to the indoor swimming pool and bowling alley, the house is just a fascinating place to tour.  The behind the scenes tour is highly recommended; you can see rooms and spaces in the chateau that are not open to the general public.

Each season of the year the outdoor gardens and green house are filled with beautiful blooms that you just have to see. From tulips to roses and just about everything in between, the gardens are a flower lover’s dream come true. Walk through a sea of color as you enjoy the scenery and beauty that these magnificent gardens offer

There are also hiking trails on the estate that show beautiful scenery and allow you to enjoy nature. Pack a picnic and find a relaxing spot to enjoy! If hiking is not your thing, there are also horseback riding or Segway tours available!

Dining at Biltmore Estate

At the House and Gardens: Have lunch in the Stable Café, which was the horse stable in a previous time! The atmosphere is so unique and inviting, and the food is delicious. The Conservatory Café is an outdoor dining option with tasty snacks and culinary delights! If you have a sweet tooth, try the Bake Shop for freshly made pastries, coffee, and tea.

At Antler Hill Village and Winery: The Bistro offers farm fresh, locally grown ingredients to create delicious meals. It has an open kitchen and you can even see the chefs create their masterpieces!  Another treat is Cedric’s Tavern, which offers craft beers and Biltmore wines along with pub fare and other specialty cuisine. If Bar-B-Que is a favorite, then visit The Smokehouse! Located in the Barn, in Antler Village the Carolina barbecue is their specialty, along with various sandwiches and desserts. Speaking of desserts, stop by The Creamery for ice cream! They also offer pastries, cakes, and coffees, as well as ice creams and sundaes.

  The Biltmore Winery is also something you must take the time to enjoy when visiting the estate. The winery is top notch and produces some of the best wines in the region. Sample the wines in a free tasting at the winery, and then explore the wine shop for delicious treats to pair with your wine. You will also want to take the time and explore Antler Hill Village on the estate. Kids will love the barn and petting the animals there and adults can experience specialty shops and treats in the village, too.

Each season of the year offers a new experience at Biltmore Estate.

  • Spring: Enjoy the tulips and the flower festival yearly, in March.
  • Summer: This is the perfect time to enjoy the hiking trails and outdoor tours on foot, horseback, or Segway.
  • Fall: See the colors of fall with the changing of the leaves in the forest and mountains that surround the estate.
  • Winter: Experience the magical candlelight holiday tour of the estate and enjoy the holiday decorations.

Tickets can be purchased at the main entrance of the estate or online at www.biltmore.com. There are discounts for advance ticket purchase, seniors, and savings on next day outdoor activity tickets!
